It is always a good feeling, if you can help people. Specially those, who can't get any, in an hour of need?
Travelers arriving at FRA Airport seldom catch trains, further to get home. And what do you do when you see someone frantically rushing to get their train? Possibly, if these venues were populated with helpers, that would be wonderful...
...but then they aren't. I happened to be there on 24-March at 21:50, walking through the long hallway leading to the escalators that take you down to the platforms.
While walking I saw two older ladies, walking fast paced and pulling along their suitcases to find the way to the platform. I imagined they could use some help? But wasn't sure.
As I speeded my steps, they nearly reached the end of the hallway to the veer off point to get the escalators or otherwise, but then they seem to be lost. As I had heard them looking for Platform 5, I quickly shouted the direction with my hands.
But then I decided I should do something, even though my own train was 5 minutes away on a completely other platform (which would mean going down once and coming up all over again, to get down to my platform) and, I still had to buy a ticket!
So I quickly took their bags from them and said, I will lead them to the train, whose arriving noise had their hearts beating even faster. If they missed it, they'd be easily stranded to get to Stuttgart that night. And it is one of those cities in this beautiful country, which likes to shut itself to the world with no connections.
I hastened to picking up their two large sized suitcases, indicating that I will rush down to the platform, so they could follow. After one flight of stairs, I took the escalator down, while they continued in their own spirits down the stairs.
The train was about to close the doors, so I rushed to block the door with the bags, pushing one in, then asking the ladies to get on board, so they were not left behind with their bags inside.
They got in and turned to face me with awe and such thankful glee. And with an outburst of 'thanks', both gave me loving flying kiss. Wow, what a feeling! I could only wave them bye, while onlookers on the platform stood bewildered. I had done my job. The train moved, leaving me with just one thought - I needed to fly up and down across to Platform 7. Luckily, HE had delayed mine by 5 minutes, to accommodate this, the flying kiss as a bonus!
PS - Platform 4 & 5 are together, but to get to Platform 6 & 7, you have to go up the escalators and then down again across. Unlike in India, you can't jump across Platforms!
